Film Synopsis of “Wicked“→ After 2 decades as one of the world’s most beloved & enduring musicals – Wicked makes its long-awaited debut on the big screen with its two major characters of Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo).
What is This Feeling?
The relationship between Glenda and Elphaba is a poignant reflection of how misunderstandings can stem from differences. Initially, these two girls loathed each other for reasons that seemed obvious, which is so relatable to many of us. For those who have experienced the story through the book or the beloved Broadway musical “Wicked,” it’s touching to see how quickly their hearts opened up to one another and transformed into a deep friendship.
Elphaba, with her green skin, embodies the struggle of being seen as different in a world where appearances often dictate how we are treated. It’s heartbreaking to consider how many people face similar challenges today due to skin pigmentation issues or other differences. Do we truly see them for who they are, or do we allow our biases to cloud our judgment? Glenda, coming from the “high” side of the tracks, and Elphaba, from the “lower” side, highlight the barriers that can divide us. Yet, it is precisely those barriers that make their eventual friendship so powerful and inspiring. It’s a reminder that understanding and compassion can bridge even the widest gaps between us.
Madame Morrible
We’ve all heard the saying, “Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer,” and it’s time we took that advice seriously. This old lady serves as a glaring example of someone we should have monitored more closely. In life, we encounter individuals who seem pure and innocent, skillfully presenting themselves as such. Yet, they often seek to exploit our good nature and kind spirit for their selfish gain. This is precisely what Madame Horrible did to Elphaba.
We must remain vigilant against ferocious wolves disguised as sheep—this is a vital truth that cannot be overlooked! The reality is that there are far more deceitful people in this world than those who are genuinely honest and humble.
Going to the Land of Oz
Elphaba embarked on a journey, absorbing everything Madam Morrible taught her, all to reach the Wizard. She believed that by harnessing her emotions, she could become a powerful force for good, dedicated to liberating animals from confinement, as Professor Dillamond championed. Unfortunately, she was blind to the true motivations of the Wizard and Madam Morrible, who had ensnared her for their agendas. Her trust had been misdirected. Ultimately, it was Glinda—the one with whom she had a complicated relationship—who proved to be her genuine ally. Isn’t it fascinating how the most unexpected individuals are often the ones who step up to support us when we need it the most? These are the relationships that deepen and strengthen us in our most trying times.
No One Mourns The Wicked!
Was Elphaba truly wicked, as the Wicked Witch of the West? This raises an important question. In life, we often encounter the challenge of protecting our good names and reputations from those who choose to spread misinformation or gossip when we refuse to conform to their expectations. Through these experiences, we learn that true wickedness lies not in our actions, but in the intentions behind the negativity directed at us.
The way this film’s first part concluded mirrors the structure of the iconic Broadway production, which paused for intermission after Elphaba’s powerful musical number as she made her escape. This mirrors the journey ahead, and I look forward to seeing you on November 21, 2025, for the epic conclusion!
